— Our Story
Built for the person who was never
taught this stuff.
MoneyLifeGuru started as a personal obsession with one question: why is something as important as money management taught so badly — or not at all? We built the resource we wish we’d had at 22.

The Story
I wasn't always good with money.
A few years ago, I had what looked like a decent financial life from the outside — a steady job, a reasonable income, a life that seemed fine. But the reality? Credit card debt I was too embarrassed to add up. No real savings. No investments. No plan.
I was doing the thing millions of people do: earning money, spending most of it, and hoping the future would somehow sort itself out. I wasn’t irresponsible — I just never learned how money actually worked. Nobody taught me. And I suspect nobody taught you either.
I grew up in a household where money was a source of stress, not a topic of open conversation. You worked hard, paid your bills, and didn’t ask too many questions. The idea that you could deliberately and systematically build wealth — even on a modest income — genuinely never occurred to me.
The Turning Point
It started with a book — The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. I picked it up on a whim and read the whole thing in two days. For the first time, someone was explaining why people make the financial decisions they make — not as a character flaw, but as a completely predictable result of how human beings are wired.
“Your personal experiences with money make up 0.00000001% of what’s happened in the world, but maybe 80% of how you think it works.”
That single idea unlocked everything. I wasn’t bad with money because of some personal failing. I had money beliefs that were shaped by my upbringing and environment — and those beliefs can be changed.
I spent the next six months obsessively reading, testing, and rebuilding my financial life from the ground up. I paid off my credit card debt. I opened a Roth IRA for the first time. I built a real emergency fund. I started investing in low-cost index funds. I built the financial foundation I should have had a decade earlier — and I want to help you do the same.
Why I Built This Site
The more I learned, the more I realised that almost everything I had been told about money — or not told — was either wrong, incomplete, or deliberately obscured. Good personal finance is not that complicated. It comes down to about ten core ideas, applied consistently over time.
The problem isn’t a lack of information. It’s a lack of clear, honest, jargon-free explanation.
Most personal finance content is either too basic to be useful, too technical to be readable, or quietly designed to sell you a product.
MoneyLifeGuru is the site I wish had existed when I was starting out. No get-rich-quick promises. No complicated strategies you need a finance degree to understand. Just the honest, practical truth about how money works and how ordinary people on ordinary incomes can build extraordinary financial lives over time.
What We Believe
We believe that financial literacy is a form of freedom. When you understand how money works, you make better decisions, feel less anxiety, and gain real options in life — where to live, what work to do, how to spend your time.
We believe that everyone deserves access to honest, clear financial guidance — not just those who can afford a financial advisor. Everything on this site is free to read, and we will always be completely transparent about how we earn revenue.
We believe that small steps, taken consistently, change lives. You do not need a windfall or a six-figure salary. You need a system, the patience to trust it, and someone in your corner cheering you on. That is what we are here for.
What We Stand For
Our principles
Radical Honesty
We tell you when a link is an affiliate link. We tell you when we think a product isn’t worth the money. We tell you when the conventional wisdom is actually wrong. Your trust is our most important asset.
Actionable Always
Every article ends with something you can do today. We have no patience for financial content that makes you feel informed but leaves you with nothing to act on. Information without action is just entertainment.
No Jargon
We write for people who are smart but busy — not for people who already know what an “expense ratio” or “rebalancing threshold” is. If we use a technical term, we explain it immediately. Every time.
Independence
We don’t take sponsorships. We don’t accept payment for reviews. We don’t let affiliate relationships shape our recommendations. If we don’t personally use and believe in a product, we don’t recommend it.
Psychology First
Most financial content focuses on the numbers. We focus on behavior — because that’s where most people actually get stuck. Understanding why you do what you do is more powerful than any spreadsheet.
Long-Term Thinking
We are not here to help you make a quick buck. We are here to help you build a financial life that is genuinely, sustainably better ten years from now. The long game is the only game worth playing.

Your financial future starts with one decision.

Frequently asked questions
How does MoneyLifeGuru make money?
We earn revenue two ways: affiliate commissions (when you click a recommended link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you) and sales of our own digital products such as budget templates and guides. Every affiliate link is clearly disclosed. We never accept payment to feature or review a product, and we never sell your personal data.
Are your reviews sponsored or paid?
Never. Every review is based entirely on personal testing and independent research. We only recommend products we have genuinely used and believe in. If we think something isn’t worth the money, we say so clearly — even when an affiliate program exists. Our credibility with you is worth far more than any commission.
Is this personalized financial advice?
No. Everything on MoneyLifeGuru is for informational and educational purposes only. We are not licensed financial advisors, and nothing here constitutes personalised financial, legal, or tax advice. For decisions specific to your own situation, please consult a qualified professional.
How often do you update your content?
We publish two new articles per week and update our comparison and “Best Of” articles monthly to reflect current rates, pricing, and product changes. If you spot anything outdated, please let us know via the Contact page — we take accuracy seriously.
How can I get in touch?
The best way is through our Contact page. We read every message and try to respond to genuine questions within a few business days. We also genuinely love hearing when something on this site made a real difference for you.
